Poland Crypto Licensing has shifted decisively since the country's old virtual currency register was replaced by full MiCA authorization, and the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, known locally as the KNF, is now the body responsible for reviewing and granting Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) licences. For businesses that operated under the old registration model, or founders entering the Polish market for the first time, understanding what KNF now expects is the difference between a smooth approval and a stalled application. Neptune Fiduciaries Group supports founders through the full process, from company formation to final KNF authorization.
A Poland Crypto Licence under MiCA authorizes a business to provide regulated crypto-asset services, including exchange, custody, transfer, and portfolio management, through a locally incorporated entity, typically a Polish limited liability company. Unlike the old registration regime, which offered minimal oversight, the Poland CASP Licence carries genuine prudential requirements: tiered capital, a real Polish office, at least one EU-resident director, and a functioning AML program before KNF will approve. The upside is significant, since a single Polish authorization passports across the entire European Economic Area.
The terminology used to describe crypto businesses varies by region, and it helps to see where Poland fits. The EU's Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) category, which Poland now applies through KNF, corresponds to what FATF-aligned jurisdictions such as the UAE and Singapore call a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP), and to what the US and Canada regulate through Money Services Business (MSB) registration and other cryptocurrency virtual-asset regulatory registrations. A Poland VASP Licence, as crypto firms were once informally described before MiCA, now sits fully inside the CASP framework, and its core obligations around customer verification, transaction monitoring, and capital adequacy track closely with VASP and MSB requirements elsewhere.
Every figure here is quoted in euros:
KNF application fee
Approximately €4,500, a one-time payment due when submitting your CASP application to the Polish Financial Supervision Authority. It's relatively modest compared to some other EU regulators, but it doesn't cover the substantial preparation work the application itself demands.
Tiered initial capital
€50,000 for simpler services, €125,000 for exchange and custody activities, and €150,000 for the most complex service categories. As with other MiCA jurisdictions, this capital is held as working capital rather than paid away, but it must be maintained continuously while the licence is active.
Ongoing annual supervisory contribution
Up to 0.5% of average crypto-asset revenue calculated over the preceding three fiscal years, with a guaranteed minimum of €750 per year even for firms with limited revenue. This recurring cost is easy to overlook when budgeting only for the initial application.
Legal and compliance setup
Standard costs associated with preparing a full EU CASP application file, including drafting governance arrangements, service-specific procedures, AML/CFT programs under the Polish AML Act, and securing a real local office, since KNF strictly enforces physical presence requirements.
KNF cannot grant a CASP licence without a properly structured Polish company behind it. The two processes are handled together, step by step:
Incorporate a Polish entity
Register your company, typically a spółka z o.o., with local governance that meets KNF's standards.
Deposit your required capital
Place the applicable €50,000-€150,000 tier according to the services you intend to offer.
Appoint an EU-resident director and compliance officer
Bring on management that meets fit-and-proper standards under the Polish AML Act.
Prepare your program of operations
Document governance arrangements, service-specific procedures, and prudential safeguards for KNF's review.
Submit your CASP application to KNF
File your complete package; KNF aims to decide within 40 working days of receiving a complete file.
Coordinating formation and licensing together keeps your Polish entity aligned with what KNF expects to see at submission, reducing the risk of delays from incomplete documentation.
