Ireland Immigrant Investor Programme

The Ireland Immigrant Investor Programme (IIP) was introduced in 2012 to attract non-EEA nationals to invest in Ireland in return for permission to reside in the country. The program requires one of the following qualifying investments: a minimum EUR 1 million enterprise investment in an Irish business held for at least 3 years, a minimum EUR 1 million endowment to a qualifying Irish philanthropic project in arts, sports, health, or education with no expectation of financial return, or a minimum EUR 2 million investment in a qualifying Irish investment fund approved by the Department of Justice. The IIP grants a 2 year immigration permission, renewable for a further 3 years and thereafter in 5 year tranches.

The IIP imposes no minimum physical presence requirement on investors, making it suitable for mobile international investors who wish to maintain a base in Ireland without committing to full-time residency. Ireland is a member of the EU Common Travel Area with the United Kingdom, allowing IIP holders to travel freely to and from the UK without restriction. After 5 years of legal residence in Ireland, investors and family members may be eligible to apply for long term residence and after 8 years for Irish citizenship.

Investment Types

Qualifying investments include EUR 1 million enterprise investment in an Irish business, EUR 1 million endowment to a qualifying Irish philanthropic project, or EUR 2 million into an approved Irish investment fund, with each route subject to specific approval requirements from the Department of Justice.

No Minimum Stay

The IIP imposes no minimum physical presence requirement, allowing investors to maintain their primary residence outside Ireland while holding Irish immigration permission, making it one of the most flexible EU-linked residency programs for mobile investors.

UK CTA Access

Ireland is a member of the Common Travel Area with the United Kingdom, allowing Irish resident permit holders to travel freely to and from the United Kingdom without requiring a separate UK visa, providing dual access to both Ireland and the UK.

Business Flexibility

The enterprise investment option allows investors to actively participate in the management and direction of the Irish business in which they have invested, supporting genuine economic contribution to Ireland and potentially generating a commercial return alongside the residency benefit.
